Paver Sealing in Cape Coral

We clean pavers at reduced pressure, refill the joints with fresh sand and seal them, so the color holds and the weeds, ants and green film stay out of the joints. It is the most-searched pressure cleaning job in the Cape after the house itself.

Paver sealing in Cape Coral usually costs $1.75–$3.00 per square foot for cleaning, re-sanding and sealing, or about $1,050–$1,800 for a typical 600 sq ft paver driveway. The job takes a day, and the pavers need about 24 hours before foot traffic and two to three days before cars.

Pavers are everywhere in Cape Coral: driveways, pool decks, lanais and front walks. Left unsealed in this climate, the joint sand washes out in summer storms, weeds and ants move into the gaps, and the color bleaches in the sun within a few years. A sealed paver surface stays tight, keeps its color and is much easier to keep clean.

How the job is done

  1. Cleaning. Pavers are washed at reduced pressure with a surface cleaner so the joint sand is not blasted out more than it needs to be. Weeds and moss are pulled from the joints.
  2. Stain treatment. Rust, oil and leaf tannin stains are treated before sealing, because sealer locks in whatever is underneath.
  3. Drying. Pavers must be dry before sanding. In summer that can mean waiting out the afternoon storm.
  4. Re-sanding. Joints are refilled with fresh sand, swept in and compacted. Polymeric sand, which hardens when wet, is an option for pool decks and driveways that see a lot of water.
  5. Sealing. Two coats of a sealer made for Florida sun, rolled or sprayed evenly. The first coat soaks into the joints and binds the sand; the second protects the surface.

Wet look or natural finish?

A wet-look sealer darkens the pavers and brings out the color, with a slight sheen. A natural or matte sealer keeps the pavers close to their dry color. Wet-look is more popular on driveways and entryways; natural finishes are often chosen for pool decks because they stay less slippery. Some HOAs specify one or the other, so it is worth checking before you book.

When pavers should not be sealed yet

  • New pavers often show a white haze called efflorescence in the first months. Sealing over it traps it. We usually suggest waiting until the haze has worked its way out.
  • Old sealer that has turned cloudy or is peeling needs to be stripped before resealing, or the new coat will look patchy. Stripping is priced separately ($2.75–$4.25 per sq ft).
  • The rainy season makes scheduling harder. Sealing needs a dry surface and a few dry hours afterwards, so summer jobs are planned around the forecast.

How often to reseal

Every two to three years for most Cape Coral driveways and pool decks. A light wash in between keeps the green film off. If water stops beading on the surface after rain, the sealer is wearing thin.

Paver sealing questions

Does sealing stop weeds and ants?

It slows them down a lot. Sealer binds the joint sand so seeds have less room to take root and ants find it harder to dig. Nothing stops them completely, but sealed joints stay clean far longer.

Will sealed pavers be slippery around the pool?

A natural or matte sealer keeps the surface close to the feel of bare pavers. We can add a fine grit to the final coat on pool decks if you want extra grip.

How long before I can use the pool deck or drive on the pavers?

Walk on them after about 24 hours. Wait two to three days before parking on a sealed driveway, longer if it rains.

Can you match the sealer that is already on there?

If we know the product, yes. If not, we test a small area first. If the old sealer has failed, stripping and starting fresh gives a more even result.

Do you repair sunken or broken pavers?

Small fixes, such as lifting and resetting a few pavers before sealing, can usually be done on the same visit. Larger repairs we will point out and price separately.
